Josie & Abigail

Josie Shannon, Colorado:

“The people should have the right to choose where to die, whether in a house or hospice. However, I would prefer to die in my house where it feels comfortable the most. From my previous experiences with my grandma, [she] wanted to die in peace in her home but the law did not let her do that...it was away from home in a strange place.”

Abigail Shannon, 19, Colorado:

“Even though I’m young, if it were to happen of dying or being terminally ill, I want to be with my pets in my safe and peaceful home. Watching my grandma struggle is when I realized that [she] wasn’t as strong physically as I remember as a little girl. It made me believe that the choice of Medical Aid in Dying was the best option left for my grandma to be comfortable and pain free. Out of all options, Medical Aid in Dying was the best option for her because seeing someone that I deeply love in constant agony pain and wailing noises that broke my heart. The day of giving the medical cocktail to my grandma I remember her looking awful and really tired. Knowing I would be with her and knowing that she was not going to be hurting put me at ease. This is why I support in Medical Aid in Dying.”
